Why This Matters
Disney has opened World of Frozen, a new land at Disneyland Paris anchored by a 118-foot artificial mountain and an Arendelle-themed village. The project is the centerpiece of a roughly 2 billion euro expansion that rebrands the resort’s second gate as Disney Adventure World.
The move underlines how important theme parks and resorts have become to the company’s bottom line at a time when its film and streaming businesses face intense competition. Parks and experiences generated more than half of Disney’s operating income last year, according to company figures.
For France, the expansion is another sign that a once-controversial American brand has grown into a key economic driver on the outskirts of Paris. The government is highlighting the resort’s role in tourism, jobs, and long-term investment as the site approaches its 35th anniversary.
Key Facts and Quotes
World of Frozen officially opened Sunday in Chessy, about 20 miles east of central Paris, according to reporting by the Associated Press. The land brings the fictional kingdom of Arendelle to life with timber buildings in muted Scandinavian colors around a lagoon, dominated by Elsa’s glowing ice palace.

Disney says the project is part of a global plan to invest roughly 60 billion dollars in parks, resorts, and cruise ships over the next decade. At Disneyland Paris alone, more than 90 percent of the rebranded park’s attractions and experiences are slated to change compared with its 2002 lineup.
The opening also marked the first major international showcase for Josh D’Amaro, who became Disney’s chief executive on March 18 after nearly three decades in its parks division. Speaking at the inauguration, he told guests that ‘The Walt Disney Company was built on one man’s dream’ and added that ‘storytelling is fundamental to everything that we do,’ calling the land ‘a transformational moment’ for the company.

Inside World of Frozen, visitors can ride Frozen Ever After, a boat attraction featuring advanced animatronics and projection effects, meet Anna and Elsa in Arendelle Castle, and talk with a responsive baby troll named Mossy. The area also includes a new Tangled family ride, the Regal View Restaurant, a large Adventure Bay lake, and a nighttime show using more than 380 drones, with a Lion King-themed land still to come.
French President Emmanuel Macron visited the resort ahead of the opening, calling Disneyland Paris ‘the leading tourist destination in Europe’ and ‘a genuine ecosystem of success.’ He cited about 13 billion euros in cumulative investment and roughly 1,000 new jobs, while the resort reports 445 million visits since 1992 and more than 25,000 wishes granted for seriously ill children through partner charities.
What It Means for You
For American travelers planning a European trip, the new land adds another reason to consider a stop at Disneyland Paris, especially for families with young Frozen fans. The scale of the expansion and its early popularity suggest heavier crowds and demand, making advance reservations and careful timing more important.
For those watching the company more broadly, World of Frozen is an early test of how Disney’s new leadership will balance streaming, film, and in-person entertainment. The success or struggle of this expansion could shape how aggressively the company pursues similar large-scale projects in Florida, California, and Asia over the next several years.
What, if anything, would persuade you to add a theme park visit to a future trip to Europe?
